How do I know which service my watch needs?
We recommend beginning with a consultation, either in person or through detailed photographs. We can assess the visible condition and discuss any functional concerns you've noticed. From there, we'll provide an honest recommendation for what level of service would be appropriate. Sometimes a simple crystal restoration is all that's needed. Other times, a full mechanical overhaul is the prudent choice.
What happens during a mechanical overhaul?
The movement is completely disassembled, with each component photographed and inspected. Parts are cleaned in a multi-stage ultrasonic bath process. Worn components are identified and replaced. The movement is then reassembled with fresh lubrication at every specified point. Finally, it's regulated and monitored for at least 48 hours across different positions to ensure proper timekeeping performance.
How long will my service take?
Timeline depends on the service type and the watch's specific requirements. Crystal work typically takes 3–7 business days. Mechanical overhauls generally require 3–5 weeks. Signature restoration projects are scheduled individually and may take 8–16 weeks. We provide realistic estimates upfront and keep you informed if any unexpected work becomes necessary during the service.
Do you provide cost estimates before beginning work?
Yes. For standard services like crystal work or routine overhauls, pricing is straightforward and provided upfront. For more complex projects, particularly signature restorations, we conduct an initial assessment and provide a detailed written proposal before any work begins. If additional work is discovered during service, we contact you for approval before proceeding.
What if my watch requires parts that are difficult to source?
We maintain relationships with suppliers and have access to both new and vintage parts for many calibers. If a specific component proves difficult to locate, we discuss alternatives with you. Sometimes a part can be fabricated or adapted from similar components. We're transparent about what's possible and what timeline might be involved in sourcing challenging items.
How do you ensure the privacy of my watch during service?
Every watch is logged into our secure system with a unique reference number. It's stored in a locked cabinet when not actively being worked on. We photograph the watch at intake and at key stages during service, but these images are used solely for documentation and client communication. We understand that many timepieces have personal significance and handle them with appropriate discretion.
