Gilt Arbor began with a simple observation: too many watch owners felt uncertain about what happened to their timepieces during service. The traditional repair process often felt opaque, with watches disappearing behind closed doors and returning weeks later with little explanation of the work performed.
We established our workshop in Taipei's Xinyi District with a commitment to changing that experience. From the first consultation, we document each step, photograph significant work, and explain our decisions in plain language. This transparency extends to pricing, timelines, and the realistic expectations for what a service can and cannot accomplish.
Our approach draws from established horological principles while adapting to the needs of modern watch owners. We understand that timepieces carry both mechanical and personal significance. Some arrive as family heirlooms, others as recent acquisitions, each with its own story and importance to the owner. Our role is to preserve the mechanical function while honoring that personal connection.
The name "Gilt Arbor" reflects our philosophy. In watchmaking, an arbor is the axle on which a wheel or gear pivots. It's a fundamental component, often unseen but essential to the watch's function. We see ourselves as similarly foundational—supporting your timepiece's continued operation through careful, methodical work that may not always be visible but is always present.

Multi-stage ultrasonic cleaning process removes old lubricants and contaminants without damaging delicate components or decorative finishes.
Precision Lubrication
Calibrated dispensing of appropriate lubricants at each specified point. Type and quantity selected based on the caliber's requirements.
Regulation & Timing
Movement regulated across multiple positions and monitored for at least 48 hours to verify consistent performance before return.
Water Resistance
All gaskets replaced during service. Water resistance tested to manufacturer specifications when applicable to the watch model.
Documentation
Photographic record of work performed, components replaced, and condition assessments. Provided to owner upon completion.

Not every watch needs extensive work. Sometimes a simple cleaning or minor adjustment is sufficient. We recommend the level of service appropriate to the watch's condition and the owner's needs, rather than defaulting to the most comprehensive option.
Realistic Expectations
We discuss what service can reasonably accomplish. Vintage watches may have limitations due to age or parts availability. We're clear about what we can and cannot do, and we explore alternatives when challenges arise.
